Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® Actions
Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® uses a network of vehicle sensors to recognize certain critical driving situations that may indicate a collision is imminent. When activated, the system can automatically tighten the front seat belts and, depending on the vehicle and equipment, adjust the front passenger seat and close open windows or the sunroof. These measures are designed to help better position occupants and prepare the cabin and restraint systems before a potential impact.
Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® Sound
Select new Mercedes-Benz models are also equipped with PRE-SAFE® Sound. When a potential collision is detected, the system can emit a brief pink-noise signal through the vehicle’s audio system. This sound is designed to trigger a natural inner-ear reflex that can help protect hearing from the pressure associated with an impact.
Mercedes-Benz PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side
Select Mercedes-Benz models also offer PRE-SAFE® Impulse Side. If the system anticipates certain side-impact situations, an air chamber in the front seat bolster can rapidly inflate to help move the occupant slightly toward the center of the vehicle and away from the side of the anticipated impact. This can create additional space between the occupant and the door before a collision occurs.
